Exciting new trail project at Cheney Mtn in Moriah on Sat Oct 8

We have an exciting new trail project this Saturday morning, October 8 from 8:30-11 at Cheney Mtn. in Moriah.  We are partnering with the Town of Moriah to develop a new trail on Cheney Mountain which is on Pelfershire Road about halfway between Westport and Port Henry.

The primary goal of Champlain Area Trails is to make trails to connect our Champlain Valley communities and until now, the trails have been in the towns of Essex, Westport, and Willsboro.  We are excited to expand the trail system into other towns and to be invited by the Town of Moriah to develop this new trail.  It promises to be a great new outdoor resource for residents and visitors throughout the Valley.

The trail starts by the Town’s former landfill on Pelfershire Road and follows an old logging road to the summit where it passes by a number of unusual small ponded areas and wetlands to overlooks with spectacular views.  People have talked about making a trail here for years so we are proud to help make this dream come true.

We invite you to take part in this, the first CATS trail project in the Town of Moriah.  We will cut tree limbs and saplings, remove fallen logs, and clear brush so please bring gloves, loppers, and hand saws.  The meeting location is on Pelfershire Road, which is about 3 miles north of Port Henry and 7 miles south of Westport.  From its intersection with Rt. 22/9N, go west about 1.4 miles to a road pullout on the left.

Directions:

From Westport - go south on Rt 22/9N about 7 miles to Pelfershire Road.  Turn right and go about 1.4 miles to a wide shoulder on the left side of the road.
From Port Henry - go north on Rt 22/9N about 3 miles to Pelfershire Road.  Turn left and go about 1.4 miles to a wide shoulder on the left side of the road.<
