Saturday CATS trail meeting and Sunday Hike - this weekend

Join us for the CATS Trail Committee Meeting this Saturday, January 15th from 1:00 to 3:00 pm at Bill Amadon's house on Lakeshore Road in Essex.  We will discuss the Trail Adopter Program, potential new trails, trail stewardship, and upcoming priorities.  We'd love to hear your ideas and would really appreciate your participation - it is a great way to help plan and care for CATS trails.  Bill's house is at 1446 Lakeshore Road, four miles south of Essex, 6.5 miles north of Westport.  It is a two-story brick house with an orangy-red barn with grazing sheep and a llama.  The meeting is open to all--if you plan to attend, please contact me to let me know.

Lost Oak Valley is a beautiful biologically-rich valley with a high-quality, pine-northern hardwood forest, some neat little glades, a pretty brook, rock outcrops, and cliffs.  It is an excellent place to hike, plus looking for animal tracks is great fun.  Check out photos from last year's hike.  Meeting Time:  9:30 until about 1:00

Meeting Place:  The entrance to an old jeep trail which is on the west side of NYS Route 9 between Lewis and Keeseville, about 1 mile south of the closed Pok-o-Moonshine State Campground.  It is at the bottom of a hill.  Coming from the south, it is about 3.5 miles north of Trout Pond Road on Route 9.

What to bring:  Snowshoes, lunch, and water.  Skis are okay but if you bring them, it is a good idea to snowshoe in and then ski out.

Request:  Please contact me so that I know you are coming and include your phone number.

Upcoming activities:
Saturday, Feb. 5 - Cross-country ski trip in the backwoods of Poke-O-Moonshine at 9:30 a.m.;
Saturday, Feb. 19 - Trail project or hike (to be announced later)
